Is this typical for an allergic reaction?

Hi everyone thanks for taking the time to read my post...here's my situation, on a certain area of my body where I was exposed to something that I had never been before, I broke out.  About 12 hours after being exposed, i experienced intense itching, then the next day (2 days later) there was some redness, and finally, on the third day, I got little blisters, extreme swelling, other little red, itchy bumps, and pain.  The swelling didn't last for 2 days but the blisters and redness did for weeks(with some improvement along the way).  I wasn't sure if this is how an allergic reaction occured because I have never had one, all I have are seasonal allergies.  My main question is if this how a reaction could occur in the next 3 days post exposure, and if it could last that long.  Any thought and advice would be appreciated. thanks!

Allergic reactions can last for a long time, especially ones that are systamatic.

Allergies can develop at any time to things that you have previously had no problems with due to prolonged exposure to substances.

Do you know what it was that caused the reaction?
