Weight Gain

I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency and hypothyroidism in october of 2008 and I was put on these meds- hydrocortisone 30mg 20 in da am and 10 in the evening. Fludrocortisone 0.1mg, and levoxyl 0.025mg and before I was diagnosed I was weighing 168 and since then Im up to 197..Anyone kno what can be causing me to gain weight..???eating habits haven't changed..
Are you getting enough thyroid medication?
I would say so because i was put on a higher dosage of the thyroid med [Levoxyl 0.025mcg] about a month ago from 1 tblet to 1 and half tablet a day..
Just out of curiousity, how were you diagnosed with your AI?  What tests did they do, and what were the results?
It could be to do with the hydrocourtisone levels; if your dosage is too high for your needs, one of the main symptoms is wieght gain. I gained abit of weight after my hydro levels were increased too high and my face almost looked puffy or bloated. As soon as i lowered my hyrdo levels, my weight went back to normal. But make sure to discuss with your doctor, they should be able to suggest which of your meds is the cause and advise what to do. Dont change your hyrdo dose until you've done this.
I am going thou the same as you. (and same dosage) and my doctor told me that it is the cortison doing it.. the body has to get used to it.. and usually if you get more than your body needs (which should be normal as I understand it, in the start of treatment = 1 year) then you will gain weight.
He also told me that it is just temporaly and that in a year from now it wouldnt show on me..
But thats his words, not mine *smiles
I have had fever for some weeks now, and been on extra extra cortison, and I an beginning to look like a whale, so Im guessing he is right in this

+ A body that doesnt produce any cortison at all needs 37.5 mg a day.
Thinking of you
