How does radiation cause problems?

How does radiation cause problems? My mom always tells me about how the radiation from ipods/laptops/etc causes problems,
but I havnt found any logical reason as to how, scientifically this works.
How exactly does radiation effect cells?
thanks you.

Mutation within the cells.

Radiation has known effects on living matter. The exact science, well, just google it. it woudl be easier tha me explaining it.

free floating electrons smash into ur dna which replicates and makes new cells, the electron can alter this replicating process causing a bad dna that replicates nonuniform-missing sequence.

this is laymen terms, didnt want to overwhelm u with info, just a basic understanding

Mainly radiation causes your DNA to mutate, or to change shape. Without going into a lot of chemistry, basically your DNA codes for all parts of a cell. Any mutation, from oh say radiation, would cause a section of DNA, called a codon, to code for something else, hence problems will occur. Lastly, mutations are at best neutral in phenotype, thus a mutation would most likely cause a severe problem
